Picknett Family History

Welcome to the Picknett Family History website, which aims to document the history of the Picknett family from its earliest recorded origins in Essex and Sussex to Redcar on Teesside and beyond.

Background

I started researching my own genealogy in 2000 and discovered loads of background information about people with the surname of Picknett. I find this information much more interesting than the bare facts of the family tree, as it tells us about our ancestors' lives and the social history of the period.

Every Picknett born in the last 200 years appears to be descended from a single man, John Potts Picknett, who was living in Redcar during the 19th century. His father was born in London and is probably descended from the Picknetts  living in Essex from at least 1500 to the mid 18th century.

I started this website in October 2003 in order to make the research available to anyone with an interest. Many people have shared their information with me and this site is a way of thanking them.

The family tree is a collation of several people’s work in putting together information on the Picknett family.

Principally they were: Richard Lawrence (Laurie) Picknett, Thomas Bilton Picknett. Jeffrey O’Neill Fisher (grandson of W.A Picknett), John S. Barker, Grace H. Barker (daughter of T.B. Picknett).

I am also indebted to Robert Clive and Janette Y. Picknett, Michael J. Picknett, Glenn Picknett, Jason Picknett, Helen Monson and the many other descendants, who have been interested in the Picknett name.

Family Trees

The Family Tree section contains the latest Picknett family tree linking ??? people from the late 1700s through to today.

The family tree is available in various formats:

  • Descendant charts in Word;
  • A 'clickable' family tree hosted by Tribal Pages, enabling you to scroll easily from one generation to another;
  • Alternatively, email me for a GEDCOM file, which can be read by most family tree programs.

There is also an alphabetical list of all the people in the tree.

The family trees do not contain personal details (such as date or place of birth) of any person, whom I know is still alive or was born since 1945, unless permission has been given. I respect people's right to privacy, so please email me if you would like your name removed.
